Solstice is Latin and means “sun stands still”. On Summer Solstice we have the longest day of the year and the shortest night.
In the south the there is no mistaking summer has arrived. It is time to hit the beaches or lakes and submerge in the waters to escape the heat. It is time to escape the walls of home, work and school and fling ourselves into wide open spaces, heat and all.
Children are free of school for the summer. Freedom from rising early, school studies and a regimented day are shelved until fall. Summertime sets their bodies and spirits free to play outside
.
Adults may adapt a “summertime state of mind” for weekend beach and lake trips, cookouts and vacations. The fish are biting and that means a fish fry with hushpuppies, coleslaw and baked means are on the menu.
The earths harvest in my south is filled with fruits and vegetables: blackeyed peas; okra; tomatoes; green beans; yellow and zucchini squash; cantaloupes; bell peppers and watermelons.

I enjoy a good meal with lots of veggies, a good fruit salad, and iced tea. Lighting candles gives me pause and time to reflect on thankfulness and change.
Each solstice alerts us that time is marching on as we move from season to season. Opportunity is given to reflect on the earth changes and evaluate our personal season in life.

How I love summer time :) Summer for me is irrevocably entangled with childhood: carefree days in the sun, trips to the lake, popsicles and hot dogs and ice cream. Thank you for sharing all of this great information!
What a lovely walk down memory lane (present, past, and future). "The sun stands still," give one much to contemplate about. Our universe goes about its business just as we do here on earth. The sun, moon, and stars all have their purpose in our lives, don't they. When I gaze at the sun, I think of fields of sunflowers.
