Oh Give Me A Home, Where the Buffalo Roam.....

Smith Center, Kansas
Always there is a little history, wherever we travel.
In this area, “Home on the Range”, originally a poem named first“My Western Home”, and written by Brewster Higley.  Later set to music by Dan Kelly of Gaylord, Kansas, the name changed,  and today the state song of Kansas.  The cabin where Higley wrote the song is still standing.
The geographic center of the 48 United States is here too, and has a marker.  We will visit these places when the temps are not 106 - 109, or on another visit.  ;-}
Heat is on everyone’s mind.  Heat is on my mind and has hampered our outdoor activities.  Still we have seen so much of our country.

Oh, give me a home where the buffalo roam

And the deer and the antelope play

Where seldom is heard a discouraging word

And the skies are not cloudy all day
Home, home on the range
Where the deer and the antelope play
Where seldom is heard a discouraging word
And the skies are not cloudy all day...

If it wasn't for the modern cars and trucks you would think you stepped back in time! That is a cute little town.

Awesome pics!
Being a Canadian, I appreciate a little glimpse into the US.
Happy Sunday :)

I love all of your rural America ~ small town posts. My husband loves the freeways and I have to admit they sure are nice when you get behind a slow semi, but you miss so much of the small town spirit and the heart of America. Thank you for sharing. Connie :)
